Greywater science - Lower Hutt
ESR’s Biowaste Team led by Dr. Maria Jesus Gutierrez Gines Lead Scientist Biowaste Team Programme Manager Centre carried out a series of activities for the Indigenous Sparks Outreach Day about Greywater Reuse for year 10 in Lower Hutt. The objectives of this activity were to:
- To promote scientific knowledge and methodology among high school students.
- To raise awareness about the potential benefits and risks to reusing greywater.
Our young people utilised scientifically approved methods in collecting and storing their own greywater. They received a thorough understanding of what is greywater; potential benefits and risk of its reuse as well as learning various methods for investigating the quality of greywater. In addition, they were able to use a range of scientific gear and equipment that they would not usually have access to. Bringing science into the classroom and making it relevant, fun yet challenging is the aim of the Indigenous Sparks™ program as we work to empower more rangatahi with skills for the future.
Indigenous Sparks™ greywater outreach program was also featured in ESR November newsletter. Students were excited to showcase what they were apart of to whanau and peers.
